IES releases periodic updates with new build numbers to fix problems or add free features. View the release notes to understand why we published the update.
Our products generally check for updates automatically and will politely remind you. You may manually check for updates by running the IES Updater utility accessible from within IES products, either in a Help menu, or in the About box. The updater is installed on your machine in C:\Program Files (x86)\IES.
System administrators may add a SuppressCheck = "True" flag into the system registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IES\Updates. This will cause the software to skip the automatic update check. This will not prevent you from running the IES Updater or manually installing updates via the downloads page at iesweb.com.
Updates may be obtained from the downloads page on the web site. Each product installs separately, except for the Quick products which are small and bundled in one setup program. Setup files are digitally signed. Verify the signature by right-clicking on the setup executable file after downloading, and choosing Properties from the context menu.
The IES Updater is an optional and free utility you may get on the supplementary downloads section on the web site. You can run the updater on startup (see the Updater's help screen) to watch for IES updates. An IES tool may also launch the updater (if it is already installed) to help you get updates for products. The updater can install, uninstall and repair the current releases of IES products. For older versions, you will still need to use the Control Panel, or Apps & Features in Settings.
If you run the tool 'As an Administrator', you will avoid multiple Windows UAC prompts when installing or uninstalling the IES tools.
The IES Updater requires secure Internet access to https://www.iesweb.com. Depending on your system, you may need to allow the program through the Windows firewall.
When the major version number changes on a product (e.g. 1.0 to 2.0), you may use the new version immediately if your license is active. If your license is expired, you may only use the newer version if your license was active on the date the newer product was released.
You may keep the previous version installed and use both, but there is rarely a need to do so. If you are in the middle of a project, and deadlines are looming it may be a good idea to keep that project in the older version. New upgrades will almost always import older project files without any issues.
